Stan Higgins in 1949

With great sadness we learned today that our club President, Stan Higgins passed away on Monday 9th August, aged 91. His health had been failing for some time and because of that he has been unable to visit the club since well before the start of the pandemic. It is difficult to think of anyone who has been more influential during the club’s history than he has been. His efforts over many, many years have contributed hugely to the growth and development of St.Georges Cricket Club. Stan made his first appearance as a player for the Dragons in 1943, and continued to be a regular in the side until 1981.His involvement then spread to off-the-field activities as he spent 25 years as vice-chairman before replacing Eric Lomas as chairman in 2002. He stepped down as chairman when Paul Taylor took over in 2009 and since then has been club president.

As well as his invaluable involvement with St.Georges CC, Stan also served for many years as a Social Club and Management committee member. Our condolences go to Janet and all his family.
