Graham Hoof

We regret to announce that Graham Hoof passed away on Thursday 23rd May. Graham was a long time supporter of St.Georges CC, who was invariably present at both home and away games, and was previously often to be seen rolling the pitches. In recent years he suffered from poor health, but still made occasional appearances at the club. The funeral service is at Telford Crematorium on Thursday 13th June at 11.30 am and afterwards at the club.

Annual Brennan 6-a-side competition

The annual competition takes place on Sunday 25th August at St.Georges Cricket Club. We are now taking entries on a first-come/first served basis. It’s a light-hearted competition designed to include non-cricketers. Follow this link for more information and to get an application form.

Gilly Palin

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Gilly-Palin.jpg

With great regret we report that Graham (“Gilly”) Palin passed away on Thursday 9th April 2019, after a long illness. Members and former members will remember Gilly with affection as the steward of St.Georges Sports and Social Club for many years before his retirement. In his younger years he was also an active participant in St.Georges sports clubs, notably the cricket club. He captained St.Georges 2nd XI for five years in the 1970s. After retiring as steward he did a couple of stints as caretaker steward and was a frequent visitor to the club on the “right” side of the bar as a member of the domino team. We send our condolences to June and his family. The funeral is at Telford Crematorium on Tuesday May 7th at 12:30 pm

Posthumous Award for Malcolm

Malcolm Webster, who tragically passed away shortly before the start of the 2018 season, has been awarded a Telford50 Community Pride award in recognition of all the voluntary work he did in the local community. His efforts went far beyond what he did for St.Georges Cricket Club. Click on this link to see the interview with his mother and his brother at the awards ceremony.

Happy Christmas!

We would like to wish all players, members, sponsors, friends and supporters of the club a very happy Christmas and a successful and above all healthy 2019.

Dennis Marsh Memorial Willow

We are grateful to Sheila Angeloff, sister of former prominent St.Georges and Shropshire cricketer Dennis Marsh, for sending us this item of news. Dennis recently died and several St.Georges members attended his funeral in Bristol in January this year, where he had lived for many years after leaving the area. His son Tom, also a cricketer said “We buried Dad’s ashes this morning. This is his cricket bat willow that the cricket club had donated. In years to come when the tree is big enough, it will be cut down to make cricket bats. Dad’s ashes are at the roots, so he will be part of the tree. We didn’t have many words to say whilst burying the ashes… Because at those kind of moments, only dad had enough words to describe any moment. We can visit the tree at any moment, especially when I get a duck whilst getting caught at cow corner.”
