Four club members completed the recent Birmingham half-marathon in complete cricket gear, including bats, gloves pads and helmets. The picture above shows Neil Davies, Ben Byram, Matt Chesters and Chris Jones before the start of the race. Below is the quartet after completing the course. They managed to raise several hundred pounds towards the cost of our planned new scoreboard. Well done boys!

Junior Presentations Sunday 25th September

Our 2016 junior season is now finished, and we hope all the children have enjoyed themselves playing cricket, despite the fact that this year was unusually blighted by wet weather on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which wiped out quite a bit of our match programme.

We are holding our annual get-together and presentation evening on Sunday 25th September at the club. Hopefully you have all got this date in your diaries/calendars already.

We will again be doing the event in two sessions simply because we cannot accommodate the numbers involved in a single session.

3:00 pm – ca. 5:00 pm

Under 8 & Under 9 (boys and girls),  Under 10 boys,  Under 11 boys

5.30 pm – ca. 7:30 pm

Under 11 girls, Under 13 Girls, Under 13 boys, Under 15 boys

Some refreshments will be provided: Burger / Sausage & Chips. To help cover some of the cost, there will be an entrance charge, collected on arrival as follows:

Junior Members:  – No charge

Adults: £3.00 each

Other children £2.00 each

We will also be holding a raffle and would again be very grateful to any parents who would like to donate a small prize.

We do need to know how many people will be attending and also need to plan catering so please would you let us know:

  1. Which session you will be attending (or whether you will attend both)
  2. How many people in your party
  3. How many for sausage and how many for burgers.

If you have any special dietary needs please let us know, and we will do our best.

Please email your reply to Paul Taylor

Email notifications have been sent out but not everyone supplied us with an email address and also several appear to be no longer valid, so please remind your friends, just in case.

Many thanks and we hope to see you all on the 25th

Burma Road resurfaced

Burma Road opening

The Burma Road has been formally re-opened. The road up to the car park and all weather pitch has been resurfaced with the help of funding from Telford & Wrekin council’s “Pride in our High Street” project. Seen here with Councillors Richard and Sam Overton (centre) are Ashley Smith and Paul Taylor of St.Georges Recreation Ground Management Committee.

Miller Hundred ends Dragons losing streak

After a dismal run of results our first team desperately wanted a win on Saturday. Chasing 191 at Shelton, our innings did not begin well, with openers Gareth Hughes and Matt Chesters soon back in the pavilion. However Chris Miller (122) dug in and turned the innings around. He was well supported by Jack Heath (28) in what was a match-winning partnership. The 2nd and 3rd teams continue to dominate their respective divisions, with wins against Beacon and Hinstock. Sam Morgan (112), Ross Wilmot (65) and Matt Conniffe (59no) set up a declaration on 280/2, before the St.Georges bowlers finished the job, bowling out Beacon for 158. Ryan Forrester (4/33) and Assan Hussain (3/31) did most of the damage as the 3rd XI bowled out Hinstock for 122. Youngsters Awais Arif (33) and Alex Johnson (28no) then ensured that St.Georges had no trouble reaching their target. The 4th XI nearly snatched a win at the end of their match against Allscott II. In a total of 208/6 several batsmen made useful contributions: Ash Kumar(39), Amar Jassal(38), Mike Ross (26), Ryan Ball (39), Haider Raza (38). After a good start by Allscott’s opening pair they seemed to be cruising towards the total, but good bowling by Haider Raza (5/35) and Austin Rowley (4-32), turned it into a close match with St.Georges finally losing by a single wicket.
