Doug Parry

Word reached us today from Audrey Parry in Australia, that her husband Doug Parry passed away on 28th April, aged 90, after a short illness. Doug was a leading player for the club in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. He was an allrounder who represented Shropshire many times. At the time of his emigration to Australia in the 1960s he was county vice-captain. He never returned to this country, but followed the club’s progress regularly via this website. Stan Higgins, club president, remembers him as a fine player and a good friend. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Doug Parry is pictured here on his wedding day at St.Georges with Stan as best man. Older members might spot one or two other St.Georges oldtimers in the picture.

New Clubmark Certification issued

St.Georges CC has again had its “Clubmark” accreditation renewed. This accreditation confirms that the club meets all the requirements of providing a safe environment for all members. St. Georges was one of the first cricket clubs in the country to achieve this accreditation after its introduction in 2002. The latest certificate can be viewed here.

Junior Registration Evening Monday 26th March 6:45 pm

Our registration evening for junior members, boys and girls, existing or new, takes place in the club at 6:45 on Monday 26th March 2018. Kevin Myatt

We are sad to announce the passing of Kevin Myatt. Kevin had been unwell for some months, but his condition recently deteriorated rapidly and despite being admitted to an intensive care ward, he died  on Monday morning 5th March. His passing will be mourned by everyone involved with the club. He had been an active member of St.Georges CC for many years in a variety of roles: player, junior coach, team manager and captain. He was the first captain of our 4th XI, which was introduced in the 2005 season, and later also captained the third XI. Kevin involved himself with many off-field activities within the club, and was generally amongst the first to put his hand up when jobs needed doing. He had only recently retired from work. All of our members will be shocked by the news and will be thinking of Gill, Mike and Allan at this tragic time.

The funeral takes place at Telford Crematorium on Tuesday 27th March at 3:00pm and afterwards at the club.

The family has indicated that donations, if desired, will be used to promote junior cricket at St.Georges CC

Sian Hastings

Many of you will already know of the tragic sudden death of Sian Hastings on December 20th. Sian was a regular spectator at St.Georges CC, and spent much time and effort to enable her son, Sam Morgan, to attend junior practice sessions and matches. She continued to be a regular spectator as Sam progressed into senior cricket, and she will be sadly missed by us all.

The funeral is on Friday 19th January at 2:00 pm at Telford Crematorium, and afterwards at the Club.

Dennis Marsh

Word has reached us via Sheila Angeloff that Dennis Marsh, her brother, who was a prominent St.Georges Player in the 1960s and 1970s, has recently died. Dennis will be remembered by all those associated with the club during those years. There will be a family funeral at Bristol Crematorium on Friday 26th January at 10:30 followed by a memorial service at 11:45 at Pull Methodist Church BS20 0ES and then refreshments at Lodway Cricket Club BS20 0HB. I understand that Ashley Smith is attending and can offer a list to people who would like to go.
