After a dismal run of results our first team desperately wanted a win on Saturday. Chasing 191 at Shelton, our innings did not begin well, with openers Gareth Hughes and Matt Chesters soon back in the pavilion. However Chris Miller (122) dug in and turned the innings around. He was well supported by Jack Heath (28) in what was a match-winning partnership. The 2nd and 3rd teams continue to dominate their respective divisions, with wins against Beacon and Hinstock. Sam Morgan (112), Ross Wilmot (65) and Matt Conniffe (59no) set up a declaration on 280/2, before the St.Georges bowlers finished the job, bowling out Beacon for 158. Ryan Forrester (4/33) and Assan Hussain (3/31) did most of the damage as the 3rd XI bowled out Hinstock for 122. Youngsters Awais Arif (33) and Alex Johnson (28no) then ensured that St.Georges had no trouble reaching their target. The 4th XI nearly snatched a win at the end of their match against Allscott II. In a total of 208/6 several batsmen made useful contributions: Ash Kumar(39), Amar Jassal(38), Mike Ross (26), Ryan Ball (39), Haider Raza (38). After a good start by Allscott’s opening pair they seemed to be cruising towards the total, but good bowling by Haider Raza (5/35) and Austin Rowley (4-32), turned it into a close match with St.Georges finally losing by a single wicket.
