SCCL T20 Finals Day Sunday 14th July – Volunteer’s needed!!

St Georges CC host this years T20 finals day this year, with the two semi-finals and final all being played here. However, we need help with ground preparation before the day as well as help on the finals day itself.

On the day we need a team of ground staff to move the sight screens and covers as well as people to help with car parking duties. The more people who volunteer the better, then we can hopefully divide duties up and have a rota.

If you can help with ground preparation please give Paul Smart a call, or if you help on the day then contact Stuart Edwards.

1st and 2nd teams march on

Batting first at Wroxeter for the 1st XI, Gareth Hughes  set things up with 57. 44 from Chris Miller and a useful 28 from Mitch Hoof took the total to 192/6. Nick Bevan(42) and former county captain Bryan Jones(23) provided some resistance for Wroxeter, but Windy was also in form with the ball (4/31). An overweight Hitshu Bachani helped himself to three (3/37) and a further two wickets from captain Ben Byram saw Wroxeter all out for 136, giving us maximum points for the fourth successive week. The 2nd Xi, at home to Wroxeter, also extended their winning streak. Three wickets for Jack Lamb and two each for Fraser Watson and Luke James left a modest target of 130 for our batsmen. After a typically cautious start from opener Avi Mathur(21), Liam Buttery(45no) , Lewis Sedgley(18) and Matt Conniffe(20no) easily knocked the runs off in 21 overs. The 3rd XI match with Oswestry was abandoned and Corvedale had conceded their home match with the 4th XI on Friday.

Look who’s here again!

No U15 match this Sunday (23 June)

The U15 fixture v Madeley will now not be played on Sun 23rd June, as it is their President’s Day. Neither the ground nor sufficient Madeley players are available. Sunday 30th June is President’s Day at St.Georges which is in memory of Jim Heath, so there is no match that Sunday either. If possible these matches will be re-arranged for later in the summer.

Narrow escape at Allscott

Week 9 saw our 1st XI nearly beaten at bottom club Allscott ,whose team contained several St.Georges old boys. Batting first the total of 195/8 was made up of several contributions of 20 or so with nobody able to stick around and make a big score.Allscott came within 7 runs of victory before being bowled out, with the wickets shared amongst our bowlers. Despite the close shave we collected maximum points for third week in a row. The 2nd XI found themselves chasing 191 after Rob Bagshaw made 51 for Lilleshall. Liam Forrester and new boy Jack Lamb took 3 wickets apiece. A very good third wicket partnership between Matt Chesters(40) and Liam Buttery(48) put us on course and Lewis Sedgley (54no) and Jack Lamb(19no) saw us home to a 5 wicket win. At Calverhall the 3rd XI made 254/5 – Alex Dillon(47), Ross Wilmot(41) and Ryan Forrester(83), before 15 year old Richard Sambrook ripped through the host’s batting with figures of 5/7 to give us victory by 153 runs. Matthew Knight’s 82 was the backbone of Welshpool’s 172 all out against the 4th XI. In reply a good late order partnership between Joe Gaut(38) and Steve Pessall(33) brought us within 16 runs of a win before being bowled out.

St.Georges U15s at Shifnal

U15 team June 2013 The Under 15s bowled and fielded well against Shifnal at Blymhill, but were unable to bat through the available overs to post a defendable total. Only Richard Sambrook(29) made a reasonable score.

Ladies take on Shropshire Disabled team

Ladies v Shropshire Disabled June 2013.jpeg

St.Georges Ladies latest fixture was against the Shropshire Disabled team. The experience of the disabled players, several of whom are St.Georges members, was evident and they won comfortably, but it was good taste of competitive cricket for our ladies, who certainly took something from the game.
