Eric, Millie and Mike

As many of you will know, we are holding a Presidents Day on Sunday 1st July 2012. There will be a match between two invitation teams and also a meal in the club. The event is to commemorate Eric & Millie Lomas and Mike Brennan, all of whom sadly passed away in 2011. We are hoping for a good turnout of members, supporters and sponsors. Funds raised will be donated to the nominated charities of the respective families. Please see latest post for more information.

Shropshire League Structure for 2012 is announced

The structure of the newly formed Shropshire County Cricket League has been announced. Please go to our new FIXTURE MAP  (permanent link in the right sidebar) to see which team is in which league with which opponents. The markers are colour coded by league so you can display locations of opponents for each team separately.  You can search for a club by entering its name in the search field and then  click on the marker to get location and address, double click on marker to get directions. N.B. There are 14 teams in Division 6, but our 4th XI will only have fixtures with 11 of them. Fixture dates, junior teams and their opponents will be added as the information becomes available.

The new league has a play-cricket site (permanent link on the left under “Dragons Related Links”.  A copy of the draft constitution for the new league can be viewed here.

New Wolves Book by Jim Heath

Jim Heath, club fixture secretary and      St.Georges Under 15 coach and manager, has written a new book about his passion outside cricket – the Wolves. “I had the idea of coming up with my favourite Wolves games, my favourite goals and my favourite signings, as well as one or two less celebrated things like the biggest Molineux controversies and the club’s biggest transfer blunders,” Jim said. The book is called “Wolves in 20/20 Vision” and is available at £9.99 from Wolves retail outlets, major bookstores, including Bobby Gill’s emporium in Oakengates, and also online retailers such as Amazon.  There is a launch at the club shop on Tuesday 6 Dec 6-7 pm when old Wolves stars such as Derek Parkin, Phil Parkes, John McAlle, Matt Murray and of course the author himself will be on hand to sign autographs.

Happy Birthday Mr. Chairman!

2 Dec 2011:  Paul Taylor, our club chairman, veteran player and all-round good egg is 60 today! Although not quite our oldest current playing member (septuagenarian Charlie Dillon holds that honour).  Paul (“The Don”) has been a playing member of St.Georges for many years and as he has shown a few times during the past season, is  still capable of showing the kids how it is done. He is involved in every aspect of the club  and works tirelessly on its behalf.  Now he’s old, can we all give him a bit of a hand? In recognition of his feat this season of breaking the club record for the most drinks breaks during a single innings  (11, I think) he was awarded at the recent AGM the highest accolade the club can bestow, being made an Honorary Life Member of St.Georges Cricket Club.
