Mike & Madonna at St.Georges

We received today the sad news that Mike Brennan, who played for St.Georges for three years between 2002 and 2004 has passed away at his home in Australia. As well as being a fine all-round cricketer, Mike was an inspirational character during his time with the club, both for his younger teammates and also for many members of our junior section, where he performed an active role. He was a very popular figure and he and Madonna  made many friends in the local area.  One of his enduring legacies is the six-a-side “fun” competition which he was instrumental in inaugurating. This is now held each year on the Sunday of the August holiday weekend. It will henceforth be known as the “Brennan Six-a-Side”.  Several club members have kept in close touch with him in the years since he left, some even visiting him in Queensland.  Shortly after leaving St.Georges, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which, although he fought it bravely for several years, in the end proved fatal. The funeral is on Friday 30th September. Our thoughts and sympathies go to Madonna. The “big man” will always be remembered with affection at St.Georges Cricket Club.
