Gilly Returns !

Following the departure of Paul and Isobel, the club has appointed a “caretaker manager”. One time second team skipper and long time former steward, Gilly Palin, resumes control of day to day management of the social club until the new steward is appointed. Since his retirement as full-time steward, Gilly has never been far away from the club, either providing relief cover during the steward’s holiday, running the dominoes team, or just watching the cricket and enjoying a pint. So we all have every confidence that he will keep things running smoothly in the interim period.

He lost his glasses again tonight… anyone seen them?  People say that the loss of one sense enhances the sensitivity of the other senses. For example the best piano tuners tend to be blind………..unfortunately Gilly is deaf as a post.

Vacant Captaincy Positions

We have vacancies for captains of the Saturday 4th XI and also for the Sunday XI. We would like to fill these positions as soon as possible. If you think you could perform one of these roles or would like to nominate someone else who might,  please get in touch with Paul Taylor or Mike Waldron.

The purpose of the 4th XI is primarily to provide a route into senior cricket for our junior players. The captain has an important role to play here and must be well aware of the special responsibilities involved in looking after our youngsters, while developing their confidence as well as cricketing skills.

The Sunday XI plays friendlies on a Sunday afternoon. The idea is that everyone “gets a go” and the team is often a mixture of ages and playing standards.

Girls Cricket

We have had girls in our junior section for many years. Now, we are particularly keen to develop girls cricket further.  We would like to welcome more girls to our club with a view to forming a girls-only team. Please click Girls Cricket for more information.

Ponting’s Ashes Plan

The planning and preparation for the 2010/2011 by the England squad and  management team has been universally praised.

But it would be wrong to think that the Australians had completely neglected their tactical preparation. Ricky Ponting had an extremely effective way of making a wicket fall quickly, which was successful several times during the series.

That’s right – he went out to bat!

Ashes retained – No worries mate!
